1. As a Main Verb (Meaning “Perform” or “Carry Out”)
“Do” means to perform an action, task, or activity.
I do my homework every day.
She does the laundry on weekends.
They did the project last month.
Note:
Use do with I, you, we, they (present tense)
Use does with he, she, it (present tense)
Use did for all subjects in the past tense
2. As an Auxiliary (Helping) Verb
“Do” is used to form questions, negatives, and emphatic statements in the present and past simple tenses.
Questions:
Do you like pizza?
Does he work here?
Did they arrive on time?
Negatives:
I do not (don’t) understand.
She does not (doesn’t) want to go.
We did not (didn’t) see the movie.

3. To Replace a Verb in Short Answers To avoid repeating a verb, “do” can replace it in short answers. ● Do you like coffee? — Yes, I do. ● Did he call you? — No, he didn’t. 4. In Fixed Expressions and Questions ● What do you think? ● How do you feel? ● I don’t know.
