What is a subordinator?
A subordinator is a word that connects a dependent clause (subordinate clause) to an independent
clause (main clause).
The dependent clause cannot stand alone—it depends on the main clause to form a complete sentence.

Structure:
1. [Main Clause] + [Subordinator] + [Dependent Clause]

Example: I stayed home because it was raining.
2. [Subordinator] + [Dependent Clause], [Main Clause]

Example: Because it was raining, I stayed home. (Use a comma in this case.)

Types of Subordinators and Their Use:
Time
when, before, after, while, since, until, as soon as

🔹 What is a subordinator?

A subordinator is a word that connects a dependent clause (subordinate clause) to an independent clause (main clause). The dependent clause cannot stand alone —it depends on the main clause to form a complete sentence.

🔹 Structure:

  1. [Main Clause] + [Subordinator] + [Dependent Clause] 👉 Example: I stayed home because it was raining.
  2. [Subordinator] + [Dependent Clause], [Main Clause] 👉 Example: Because it was raining, I stayed home. (Use a comma in this case.)

🔹 Types of Subordinators and Their Use:

Time

when, before, after, while, since, until, as soon as 👉 I’ll call you when I arrive.

🎯 Cause/Reason

because, since, as, now that 👉 She left early because she felt sick.

Condition

Contrast/Concession
