Textbook: Engineering Mechanics: Statics, by James L. Meriam, 9th ed., Wiley,
ebook included as part of WileyPlus access (required) via Canvas for $69.
WileyPlus: Required for completing assignments, including ebook. To purchase,
Click on “Modules” on the left of Canvas class page, under “WileyPlus”
choose “WileyPlus Assignments”. This should bring you to the WileyPlus
website for setting up your account and making the purchase. If previously
had a WileyPlus profile, use that one for the purchase. An activation code
will be emailed to you after your purchase. If there is a free trial period
before you have to pay, you can take advantage of that. You only need to
do this once and can use Canvas to access homework assignments on
WileyPlus afterwards. See Flyer entitled “WileyPlus registration” for
details.
Course format: All lectures will be delivered live/synchronously and recorded to enable
later viewing on Bluejeans, unless otherwise announced. We may have up
to three lectures for which in-person attendance is also available, with up
to 20% of the class allowed in the classroom. Specific details and dates
will be announced in advance. Such in-person enabled sessions will not
occur in the first two weeks of class. All assignments and exams will be
available in Canvas and submitted to Canvas.

Expectations:

  1. Students shall abide by the GT honor code for conduct;
  2. Discussions on homework and class notes are encouraged. However, exchange of written information in completing assignments is not permitted;
  3. No late homework will be accepted except for delays due to serious illness or other documented difficulties. Whenever possible, advance request for extension is expected. You can email the request to me and provide documentation when handing in the late HW;
  4. The official web site for this class is the Georgia Tech Canvas site at https://canvas.gatech.edu. The syllabus, assignments, solutions, and handouts will be posted there. This class will also use https://www.wileyplus.com for homework assignment and completion. Registration is required.
  5. Use of email for class purposes is encouraged. Students are expected to check email and the class site at least once every week.
