An overview of the soft systems methodology (ssm) developed by peter checkland, a vital tool in research and problem-solving. Ssm is a seven-stage approach that aims to address complex, real-world situations with a high social, political, and human activity component. The methodology starts from the real world, moves to an idealization of reality, and then compares it with the observed reality. The key stages include: 1) unstructured problem situation, 2) problem situation expressed, 3) root definitions of relevant systems, 4) conceptual models, 5) comparison of stage 4 with stage 2, 6) desirable and viable restructuring, and 7) action to improve the problem situation. The purpose and details of each stage, including the catwoe framework used in stage 3 to construct root definitions. The conclusion highlights the importance of ssm as a technique for applying structured systems to systemic situations with complex, human-centric challenges.

soft systems methodology The soft systems methodology (created by Peter Checkland) is a vital tool in research and problem solving. The objective is clear: to attack different situations in companies, complicated, but with a high social, political and human activity. This methodology consists of seven steps whose fundamental paradigm is learning. The seven steps start from the real world, move on to an idealization of reality and return to compare it with the observed reality.
The 7 stages of the Checkland methodology are:
BANCO Stage 1 – The unstructured problem situation. ■ At this stage the objective is to describe the situation where a problem is perceived, although without placing too much emphasis on the problem. That is, without giving any kind of structure to the situation.

■ The purpose of CATWOE is to obtain a formulation of some systems that should be considered as valid to solve the problems or problem raised.

■ They consist of the creation of models of systems of human activities named and defined in the definition. ■ Stage 4A A general system model is used in human activities and can be used for the verification of constructed models that are not deficient. ■ Stage 4B This stage consists of the transformation of the model into a different form of systemic thinking and, in this case, given the particularities of the problem. BANCO
■ Perform a comparison in which it is intended that the differences between what is described in conceptual models and what currently exists in the system emerge.

■ The methodology of soft checkland systems is a technique used to apply structured systems to systemic situations. It is a way of dealing with different problems and situations where there are activities with a high political, social and human component. 13 BANCO
