ZNANIECKI'SASSUMPTIONS ONUPBRINGING
SLAJD 3
According to Znaniecki, institutions of indirect upbringing include cinema,
theater, books, press, as well as telephones and television, which were
innovative in his time. In modern times, however, phenomena of enormous
power such as computers and especially the Internet should be added to the
institutions of indirect education. Znaniecki, considering the times in which he
wrote his work, did not mention these components of indirect education.
Nowadays, however, they have a massive impact on the process of upbringing.
SLAJD 4
Znaniecki sees education as a process that ends when the individual is ready and able
to cope with the social roles imposed on him by his environment. The further process,
however, consists of self-education of the individual. Znaniecki believes that no
individual is a passive object in the process of upbringing. He is an active subject
who has a significant impact on the results of teaching and upbringing. In upbringing,
as F. Znaniecki stresses, the personality and individuality of the pupil is extremely
important, which, however, cannot be fully developed in the process of upbringing.
To fully achieve this highest value, the individual must aim without any educational
supervision, but through self-education. Nowadays, the process of self-education has
become an indispensable element of permanent education, which is a necessity due to
the advancing technology and rapid obsolescence of knowledge acquired from
previous education.
Slajd 5
Florian Znaniecki calls the educational environment the social environment, and
all of the individuals with whom the child has contact, and all the people or
social groups with whom the child has or can have contact. All those people and
social groups that stand in the way of the pupil are the components of the
educational environment.
SLAJD 6
His definition of the process of education itself is as follows:
wychowanie jest to działalność społeczna, której przedmiotem jest osobnik
będący kandydatem

The Equalization and reduction to specific patterns of behavior of the pupil occur through the influence of law, customs, the characteristics of the actions of a given society and its system, the practical forms, and which its members consider being valid. Such actions, according to Znaniecki allow for forecasting and predicting future reactions of the members of society in response to events that they can experience in the future. Slajd 8 According to Znaniecki, the transmission of culture in the sense of education depends primarily on the traditions prevailing in society. It relies on to what extent positive skills, such as creativity, activity, and independence, develop in the charge. These features, acquired in the course of the social upbringing of an individual, allow for the permanent construction of the society of the future, based, however, on strong axiological foundations.
