Javier Fernández López Discussion-based Assessments The Great Depression and World War II Era (1929-1945) Though much of the 1920s was prosperous as you learned in the previous unit, the stock market crashed by 1929.People were making bad investments and the banking system in the United States collapsed. Economic strife occurred not only in the United States but became a global experience. But aside from economic ordeals, there was conflict stirring overseas between foreign countries that eventually led to war. The United States took a position of neutrality until certain events and allied ties led to the US entering the war. When the United States entered the war, it changed the tone of the war. Technology improved over the course of the war, and bombing became an effective strategy used to win battles. After the Axis were defeated, war trials against the defeated began, and the United Nations was created to prevent another world catastrophe in the future.
