Written Assignment 10
Consider a steam power plant that operates on a simple ideal Rankine cycle generates
250 MW of net power. Steam enters the turbine at 12.5 MPa and 600°C and is cooled
in the condenser at a pressure of 15 kPa. The turbine has an isentropic efficiency of
82%, the pump has an isentropic efficiency of 88%.
(a) Determine the quality of the steam at the turbine exit.
(b) Determine the thermal efficiency of the cycle in %.
(c) Determine the mass flow rate.
Question 1:
evaporator operates at -10. The cooling load is 40 tonnes of refrigeration.
Q 2a: Determine the COP𝑅
1 tonne of refrigeration = 3.52 kW
Q 2b: Determine the power required to the compressor.

Question 2: An Ideal Vapor-Compression refrigeration cycle uses R- 13 4a as the Question 1 : cooling medium. The operating pressure of the condenser is 700 kPa and the evaporator operates at - 10. The cooling load is 40 tonnes of refrigeration. Q 2a: Determine the COP𝑅 1 tonne of refrigeration = 3.52 kW Q 2b: Determine the power required to the compressor.
