DEGREE AND ATTRIBUTION
Using the various attribution and degree conditions regarding moral accountability,
make a value judgment on the extent of the accountability of the following situations.
Number them accordingly using the scale 1 to 4 where 1 being the least bad and 4 being the
worst. Explain your answers using the attribution and degree conditions you learned in this
lesson.
1.Robinhood stole from the rich to give to the poor. The noble families of his
time were concerned only with their own welfare and oppressive to the poor.
Based on what I’ve learned about attributions and degree conditions, in a scale of 1-4, I
am rating this as 3. In regards to Robinhood’s accountability based on attribution conditions, he
did the wrong action thus he is the agent and he seems to know what he is doing however fueled
with his own passion for helping the poor and penalizing the rich for the bad things that they did
and that also makes his actions intentional. What lessens his accountability might be the degree
of pressure given to him since a lot of poor is relying to what he provides for a living and since
the victims were rich and noble families who are just concerned with their own welfare worse
they oppress the poor makes the degree of intensity lesser. Although Robinhood’s accountability
of his actions would be aggravated by the degree of participation since he is the agent, his act
seems to be lesser evil to rate the worst.
2.Pedro belongs to a poor family living along the squatter areas in Manila. He lost
everything when their compound was consumed by fire. He started stealing goods to feed his
family.
Based on what I’ve learned about attributions and degree conditions, in a scale of 1-4, I
am rating this as 2. Pedro is the agent of the action since he is the one who did it, he is also
aware of how bad his actions were, although he might not have the intention to do it, it was
just fueled by the need thus forcing him to steal against his will. Besides considering the degree
of pressure in which he is given, that gives him lesser accountability.
3.Jun has been stealing random things for a long time now. He has been caught a
couple of times already. He steals things because he has this recurrent inability to resist the
urge to steal random things. In short, Jun is a kleptomaniac.
Based on what I’ve learned about attributions and degree conditions, in a scale
of 1-4, I am rating this as 1 or the least bad. Jun is the agent of the action and he seems to
have a knowledge of it, however, his wrong actions are unintentional since he is not in control
over it due to his inability. Jun doing the action against his will and worst due to an
uncontrollable condition gives him lesser accountability, in my opinion. On the degree
conditions, his knowledge of it, intensity and involvement might aggravate his degree of
accountability but the pressure given by his condition might mitigate those.

GUMI, NOVEL-KATE C. PHILO 01 BSN 2-B MARCH __, 20 23 4.Joco is a member of a crime syndicate that specializes in stealing cars and motorcycles. His gang members earn a living by selling parts of cars and motorcycles they steal. Based on what I’ve learned about attributions and degree conditions, in a scale of 1- 4 , I am rating this as 4 or the worst. Since Joco is one of the members that does the crime that makes him one of the agents, he also seemed to have knowledge of what he is doing and the act is intentional so those make him incriminated to be accountable. On the degree conditions, again, he seems knowledgeable of his own actions although pressure can be considered, the fact that the greater pressure is not on him but on his members who are doing it for a living still gives him greater accountability. About the seriousness of the action, they’ve been doing it multiple times since it said that they specialize in it and for the involvement considering that he is a member thus he is tied on all the wrong doings of the group. All of those worsen Joco’s degree of accountability.
