Instructions: Team Project: Preliminary Steps – Solutions Discussion (4%) – 14 Week Remote/In Person
Delivery
This preliminary step of the Team Project begins with individual work prior to our Week 9 class, ,
followed by collaboration to choose a group submission during our Week 9 class. The final group
submission for grading is due prior to our Week 10 class.
Individual work
Access all of the Learning Materials provided for Modules 6 and 9, and the rubric attached to the
“Solutions Discussion” Discussion Board. Research your topic, following the research rules in the Team
Project Overview (minimum 6 sources; must include a book of some kind, a scholarly article, and a
credible website). Create the cited Solutions section with an APA format References page, as follows:
1) Write a thorough exploration of a minimum of three solutions that are each unique and
different ways to solve the problem as a whole (remember not to suggest solutions that solve
only one part of the problem at a time. Think in terms of education, policies, incentives,
promoting programs, etc.
Start with a main “Solutions” functional heading; introduce the section here with a brief
summary (not description) of the solution options.
Use a minimum of three parallel, descriptive sub-headings that each clearly but
concisely name the specific solution ideas.
For each solution, begin with a clear solution statement (e.g. “X could solve the problem
of Y by…”). Remember that headings aren’t text; the solution idea isn’t in your text if
you don’t place it there.
Following each solution “could” statement, fully explain your vision for how the solution
idea could work.
Some of this may be brainstormed: detail your ideas for the practical logistics
for the solution: when, where, who, what, etc.
Provide as much research-based evidence as possible that the solution could
work, including showing, with evidence, that it actually solves the problem (this
can include international research from countries with related socioeconomic
cultures).
Do not add ANY new problem details (only refer back to details already in the
Problem Discussion), and do not write any sentences that focus ONLY on the
problem: all sentences must focus on how the solution SOLVES the problem.
Be careful to discuss the solution objectively, as a possibility only (using
“could/might” language), without subjective or definitive analysis (don’t say
what “should” be done, or what is “good/better/best”, or even what “will”
happen, etc.).
Following a complete explanation, identify the pros and cons for each solution under
separate sub-sub-headings (level 3). Be as specific as possible with as much research
support as possible; the more the better for credibility.
Remember that a “pro” is NOT that the solution solves the problem; do not
attempt to prove that the solution works in this section (see above where that
focus/evidence belongs).
Focus pros and cons on practical considerations: what makes this particular
WAY of solving the problem advantageous/disadvantageous? Consider factors
such as: cost, time, ease of implementation, anticipated level of “buy-in”, long-
term effectiveness, etc.

Research your topic, following the research rules in the Team Project Overview (minimum 6 sources; must include a book of some kind, a scholarly article, and a credible website). Create the cited Solutions section with an APA format References page, as follows:

  1. Write a thorough exploration of a minimum of three solutions that are each unique and different ways to solve the problem as a whole (remember not to suggest solutions that solve only one part of the problem at a time. Think in terms of education, policies, incentives, promoting programs, etc.  Start with a main “Solutions” functional heading; introduce the section here with a brief summary (not description) of the solution options.  Use a minimum of three parallel, descriptive sub-headings that each clearly but concisely name the specific solution ideas.  For each solution, begin with a clear solution statement (e.g. “X could solve the problem of Y by…”). Remember that headings aren’t text; the solution idea isn’t in your text if you don’t place it there.  Following each solution “could” statement, fully explain your vision for how the solution idea could work.  Some of this may be brainstormed: detail your ideas for the practical logistics for the solution: when, where, who, what, etc.  Provide as much research-based evidence as possible that the solution could work, including showing, with evidence, that it actually solves the problem (this can include international research from countries with related socioeconomic cultures).  Do not add ANY new problem details (only refer back to details already in the Problem Discussion), and do not write any sentences that focus ONLY on the problem: all sentences must focus on how the solution SOLVES the problem.  Be careful to discuss the solution objectively, as a possibility only (using “could/might” language), without subjective or definitive analysis (don’t say what “should” be done, or what is “good/better/best”, or even what “will” happen, etc.).  Following a complete explanation, identify the pros and cons for each solution under separate sub-sub-headings (level 3).  Organize ideas carefully so that the content under each heading clearly supports that heading only (e.g. don’t misplace pros/cons in the explanation section or explanations in the pros/cons sections).

  1. Following the APA Guide (https://sheridancollege.libguides.com/COMM28883, “Cite it Right” tab), create a References Page that follows APA 7th^ edition format and that follows the appropriate pattern for each source.  Pay careful attention to the variety of source types for which APA provides patterns; choose the BEST match, not a “sort of” match.  Remember that scholarly articles accessed via the Sheridan Library are NOT web sources.  Many “web” sources have more specific patterns (e.g. statistics, government documents, newspaper/magazine articles).  Pay careful attention to detail: capitalization, italics, punctuation, even spacing all matter in the code of APA (as does order).
  2. Edit for formal business writing style (see Modules 1 and 4). Submit the completed Solution discussion, with References Page as text to the “Module 9: Solution Discussions” Discussion Board (Individual Topic) on SLATE prior to the start of our Week 9 class. Your work should be minimum 1.5 to 2 block layout pages ((LH alignment only, single-spaced, extra line between elements) with at least three levels of headings, plus the References page. Team Discussion Join your team breakout room with microphone on, and collaboratively create a list of the top 5 key module principles that need to be understood and applied in order to effectively explore at least three solutions (with pros and cons for each), with appropriate research support and citations, and using appropriately formal business writing style and clear language. Refer to the provided rubric for terminology you can use in your list. Appoint a group spokesperson to share the list with the class. Group collaboration During the time provided by your instructor in class during Week 9, use the provided rubric to assess the quality of each of the individual Solutions Discussion created by the group members. Select the best one, or combine the best elements of more than one, to form the starting point for group work. Spend the remaining time allotted to collaboratively revise/edit/improve that work further, applying the module concepts identified above and reinforced in class. Appoint ONE group member to post the group's submission to the thread: Module 9 - Revised Submission using the html editor (not as an attachment, please) , by the deadline given by your instructor (don't be late!!). Instructor feedback will be provided in class or by reply comment. Submission Review the instructor feedback, and edit /improve the group’s Solutions discussions collaboratively to improve the sections as needed (see the Rubric associated with the “Solutions Discussion” Discussion Board for all requirements). Remember to leverage online tools to complete this process collaboratively; don’t divide up the work. Submit the FINAL Team Solutions Discussion (ONE file per team only) to the “Problem Discussion” DROPBOX in SLATE (Assessments/Assignments folders) FOR GRADING prior to the start of our Week 10 class. Follow up Your instructor will provide feedback on the quality of your Solutions Discussion (and a grade using the rubric) via the Dropbox. The team should then immediately revise and prepare a more effective discussion both as a foundation for the next component, and to use in the final report, where that content will be graded for a final time. © 2021 Angie Garmaise
