Summer Term – Remote Learning Plan

Year 10 – Physics (Separate Science)

Week: Instruc9ons to Parents/Students

28B – 20th^ April General advice: Work your way through the tasks below but don’t feel you have to finish each secDon in one go. Tick off each task as you do it. The

main priority for the summer term is to learn as much as possible about the ‘Waves’ topic (weeks 1-7). This may take more than 7 weeks, if so keep doing the ‘Waves’ work for as long as you need to. The ‘Forces’ work in the last few weeks is for anyone who finishes all the waves work and wants extra stuff to do. Where it says ‘make notes on…’ this does not mean you have to copy everything from the Bitesize pages. Simply write down key words, definiDons, facts or diagrams to give you something to refer to when you do the test. If you want to produce neat, structured pages of informaDon that’s fine, but it is not expected. Learn defini9on of ‘Waves’ and key terms such as wavelength, amplitude, frequency and velocity. Learn 2 equa9ons. Follow this pathway on Google: GCSE Science – BBC Bitesize → AQA → Waves → ProperDes of Waves → Revise, or click on hOps://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/guides/zgf97p3/revision/. Read the informa9on on pages 1-3, make notes on key points, try the two calcula9ons on page 2. Pages 4 and 5 and the 2 videos relate to required prac9cals, have a look at these and make notes about each method. Do the test ques9ons. Don’t worry if you’re not sure about some ques9ons, have a go and then check your answers – you’ll learn something even if you get it wrong. Extra informa9on can be found on freesciencelessons.co.uk/gcse-physics- paper 2/ Go to the ‘ Waves ’ sec9on. There are 4 videos to watch: ProperDes of Waves hOps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITe6snlZBp8&list=PL9IouNCPbCxX1-0Nr5_bMDJnN-9RqMuA6&index= Wave EquaDon hOps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aucu7YshyQ0&list=PL9IouNCPbCxX1-0Nr5_bMDJnN-9RqMuA6&index= Required PracDcal 8 Ripple Tank hOps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UNmv6H-f180&list=PL9IouNCPbCxX1-0Nr5_bMDJnN-9RqMuA6&index= Required PracDcal 8 Waves in a Solid hOps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXAmiRC0GBo&list=PL9IouNCPbCxX1-0Nr5_bMDJnN-9RqMuA6&index= Do the BBC Bitesize test ques9ons. Don’t worry if you’re not sure about some ques9ons, have a go and then check your answers – you’ll learn something even if you get it wrong.

29A – 27th^ May Learn defini9ons of transverse and longitudinal waves. Learn the sequence of waves in the ‘Electromagne9c Spectrum, what they have in common, how

they are different and what they are used for. Follow this pathway on Google: GCSE Science – BBC Bitesize → AQA → Waves → Transverse and Longitudinal Waves → Revise, or click on hOps://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/guides/z9bw6yc/revision/1 Read and make notes on pages 1-5, watch the video clip. Watch 4 videos from freesciencelessons.co.uk/gcse-physics-paper 2/ ( Waves sec9on): Transverse and Longitudinal Waves hOps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0f5iYCNCnow&list=PL9IouNCPbCxX1-0Nr5_bMDJnN-9RqMuA6&index= ElectromagneDc Waves hOps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5vkYjV1V1A&list=PL9IouNCPbCxX1-0Nr5_bMDJnN-9RqMuA6&index= Uses of EM Waves hOps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0iivb-acqU&list=PL9IouNCPbCxX1-0Nr5_bMDJnN-9RqMuA6&index= ProperDes of Waves 2. hOps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qCmEHRFRH8&list=PL9IouNCPbCxX1-0Nr5_bMDJnN-9RqMuA6&index= Produce a poster with as much informa9on as possible about the 7 waves of the electromagne9c spectrum. Do the BBC Bitesize test on this sec9on.

30B – 4th^ May Learn about reflec9on (specular and diffuse) and refrac9on, be able to draw diagrams of each. Read pages 1-3 of BBC Bitesize ‘Reflec9on and Refrac9on’

sec9on: hOps://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/guides/zw42ng8/revision/3 Make notes about reflec9on, refrac9on and the required prac9cal for refrac9on. Watch these clips on freesciencelessons.co.uk/gcse-physics-paper 2/ ReflecDon of Waves hOps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8K6gOST8pZk&list=PL9IouNCPbCxX1-0Nr5_bMDJnN-9RqMuA6&index= RefracDon of waves hOps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wO49W5lsP0s&list=PL9IouNCPbCxX1-0Nr5_bMDJnN-9RqMuA6&index= Required pracDcal 9: ReflecDon and RefracDon hOps://www.youtube.com/watch? v=2fN_jvf4fw8&list=PL9IouNCPbCxX1-0Nr5_bMDJnN-9RqMuA6&index= Do the BBC Bitesize test on this sec9on.

31A – 11th^ May Learn about sound, ultrasound and seismic waves. Remember, all sound waves are longitudinal, but seismic waves can be longitudinal (P-waves) or

transverse (S-waves). Read pages 1-3 of BBC Bitesize ‘Sound and Ultrasound’ sec9on: hOps://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/guides/z2dtv9q/revision/1 Make notes about sound waves and hearing. There is no diagram of the ear on Bitesize, so find a good labelled diagram on Google images and copy it. Watch these freesciencelessons clips: Sound waves hOps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_07EkzEhVQ&list=PL9IouNCPbCxX1-0Nr5_bMDJnN-9RqMuA6&index= Ultrasound hOps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1F6h9skFXU&list=PL9IouNCPbCxX1-0Nr5_bMDJnN-9RqMuA6&index= Seismic waves hOps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqVJ4b5tkwo&list=PL9IouNCPbCxX1-0Nr5_bMDJnN-9RqMuA6&index= Do the BBC Bitesize test on this sec9on.

32B – 18th^ May Learn about emission and absorp9on of infra-red, and ‘black body radia9on.’ Understand how type of surface (colour and maO/shiny) affects radia9on

emission and absorp9on, and how this can be inves9gated in a required prac9cal. Read pages 1-3 BBC Bitesize, ‘Black Body Radia9on’ sec9on: hOps://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/guides/zs63k2p/revision/1 Make notes and watch the video clip on black body radia9on.
