Job Title: Pediatric Emergency Care Physician Coordinator
I. Summary of Responsibilities
The Pediatric Emergency Care Physician Coordinator, MD, is a credentialed
physician currently practicing Emergency Medicine at Hospital-
Emergency Care Center. The Pediatric Emergency Care Physician Coordinator works
closely with the Pediatric Nursing Care Coordinator in every aspect for Pediatric Readiness
program. They direct oversight in quality assurance and improvement processes, participate in
review of pediatric care, and active in any changes implemented in the improvement of
pediatric care and outcome. The Pediatric Emergency Care Physician Coordinator assists with
the development and periodic review of ED policies and procedures. They assist with the
standards for medications, equipment, and supplies to ensure adequate resources for children
of all ages. They serve as a liaison, with Pediatric Nurse Care Coordinator, for ED, in-hospital,
and emergency care in the community.
II. Supervisory Chain
The Pediatric Emergency Care Physician Coordinator reports to the Chief Administrative Officer,
, and to the Medical Executive Board for clinical matters.
III. Desirable Minimum Qualifications
Boarded in Emergency Medicine or Pediatrics in good standing, and/ or maintain ATLS
certification. Must be able to communicate effectively with physicians, staff, and patient
population. Must possess ability to react quickly in pediatric emergency situations. Must be well
organized and maintain accurate records. Maintain competency in pediatric emergency care.

IV. Duties

The Pediatric Emergency Care Physician Coordinator oversees all aspects of the multi- disciplinary care of the pediatric patient. A. Upholds and enforces all policies and procedures which apply to the care of the pediatric patient. B. Works with the Pediatric Nursing Care Coordinator and department directors to ensure ongoing quality of care. C. Participates in review of records to evaluate the performance of care pediatric care by staff. D. Assumes the responsibility of maintaining high standards of medical care provided to the pediatric patient. E. Consults with the appropriate medical staff and administration regarding quality of care issues, adverse outcomes and identification a areas to improve in the care of pediatric patients. F. Seeks input from the physicians and nursing staff to improve pediatric patient care, communication and collegiality. G. Provides input into continuing medical education programs as needed for medical staff, nursing staff, and other health care professionals working with the pediatric patient. H. Assists the Pediatric Nursing Care Coordinator in evaluating the effectiveness of action taken resulting from monitoring and evaluating the quality of appropriateness of care.
