Parallel Structure
Definition
Parallel structure, also known as parallelism, describes sentence structure where the
same pattern of words is used to show that two or more ideas have the same level of
importance. Words and phrase within a sentence should not only match in structure, but also
in tenses. Usually indicated by using the conjunctions ‘FANBOYS’.
Function
To add clarity to their writing;
To make it easier to understand;
And show that their writing is structurally and grammatically correct.
