Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics Grade 2 I. Objectives: At end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to: a. identify the order of operations involving addition and subtraction of small numbers; b. solve order of operations involving addition and subtraction of small numbers; c. differentiate the order of operations involving addition and subtraction of small numbers; and d. relate the concept of the order of operations involving addition and subtraction of small numbers in real-life situations. Value Focus: Common good II. Subject Matter Topic: Order of Operations Involving Addition and Subtraction of Small Numbers (M2NS-IId34.3) References: Mathematics Kagamitan ng Mag-aaral Sinugbuanong Bisaya Grade pp. 17- 31 Materials: Presentation, Visual aids, Scotch tape, Pictures, Filt-tip pen. Strategy: 5 E’s Strategy III. Procedures Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity A. Preparatory Activities

1. Drill Good morning class! How are you today? I’m fine too! Before you sit down please pick up some pieces of paper under your chair and please arrange your chair properly. Is there any absent today? Okay very good! Good day fishmens! I am captain Jhasen, and you are all going to call me captain. We’re fine teacher, how about you? None, teacher.

Very good Axel! Last meeting we discussed about creating problems involving subtraction of whole numbers including money.. Okay, spongebob here has a problem, can you solve it for him? Problem: (If spongebob has 10 gold coin, and he spent the 5 coin to buy a cheese. How much money was left?) What is asked in the problem? What operations did we use? Yes, Axel Very Good Axel! Now what is the correct answer? How much money was left to Spongebob? Very good! I’m glad that you really understood our topic last meeting.

3. Engagement Ohh wow! Look at Squidward, he wants to give us something. Problem 1: Mr. Crab gave 25 gold coins salary to Spongebob for today’s work, and additional 20 coins for his tip. Spongebob then buys 2 orders of krabby patties worth 10 coins for his friend Patrick. How much coins does Spongebob have? What is asked in the problem? How are we going to solve it? What operations are being used? So, what is the correct answer? Very good class! How much money was left, captain! Subtraction, captain! 5 coins, captain! How much coins does Spongebob have? Add first then subtract, captain! Subtraction and addition, captain! 35 gold coins are left to Spongebob, captain! B. Developmental Activities

1. Presentation Fishmens! Based from our activities, what do you think is our topic for today? a. Setting of Standards Since we are exploring bikini bottom, there are rules that you need to follow. Understood? Can I expect all of that from you fishmens of Bikini Bottom? Very good! 2. Exploration Now fishmens, let us have an activity for you to enjoy in the exploration of the bikini bottom. Ohh there are 18 star fish in these area, and there are 11 starfish in here. You pick any starfish you want and solve how many starfish are being left. What operations did you use to solve the problem? How do we get the answer? Okay, very good! So what is the answer in the problem? It seems that everyone is having fun! Now let us fill our minds with great knowledge. 3. Explanation Addition it is the process of adding something to something else. Example: 30 20

  • 5 + 3 It is about order of operations involving addition and subtraction of small numbers. Aye, aye, captain! (Behave, don’t talk to your seatmate, answer only if recognized, respect your captain) Aye, aye, captain! (Activity will be played) Addition and subtraction, captain! Add first then we will subtract, captain! (Answer may vary) Aye, aye, captain!

↘↙ 38 - 10 = 28 Therefore, 38 + 10 - 10 = 28 Fishmens, I want you to practice performing orders of operations on your own. I’ll give a problem the you must answer and provide the exact answer. You can solve the problem either horizontal or in vertical form. Problem 1: 36 + 12 - 10 =? Problem 2: 42 + 20 - 21 =? Problem 3: 56 + 18 - 34 =? Possible answer: Problem 1: 38 Problem 2: 41 Problem 3: 40 C. Concluding Activities

1. Generalization What is our topic for today? What are the two forms of solving the problem using orders of operations? Very good! 2. Application To practice your knowledge of our lesson today, I will group you according to your respective table. Table 1 will be the team Patrick, table 2 will be the team Squidward, and table 3 will be the team Spongebob. Mr. Crab has problems to face. Then he left an envelope, inside this envelope are tasks for each of the team to solve. As his friends, we must help Mr. Crab so that he can earn more in his store. Let’s have a teamwork. Order of operations involving addition and subtraction of small numbers, captain! We can solve the problem in Horizontal or Vertical form, captain!

Team Patrick Problem 1: Mr. Crabs sold burgers in the market. In th morning, he earned 47 gold coins for selling regular burgers. In the afternoon, he earned 62 gold coins for selling special burgers. He spent 39 gold coins and save the rest. How much money was left in his profit? (What is asked in the problem?) (How are you going to solve it?) (What operation should you use?) (What is the correct answer?) Team Spongebob Problem 3: Squidward has a target profit of 100 gold coins. If squidward sold 10 orders of Krabby Patties worth 50 gold coins in the morning , and 8 orders of krabby patties in the afternoon worth 40 gold coins. How many gold coins does Squidward need to earn? (What is asked in the problem?) (How are you going to solve it?) (What operation should you use?) (What is the correct answer?)

3. Valuing Fishmens, today we talked about orders of operations involving addition and subtraction. Now, when we get back to the land and start a life
