Sir, It is bordered by South Vietnam to the east, the Gulf of Siam to the southwest, Thailand to the northwest, and Laos to the north. Various factors contribute to Cambodian culture including Theravada Buddhism, Hinduism, French colonialism, Angkorian culture, and modern globalization. Sir, The music of Cambodia is derived both from traditions dating back to the ancient Khmer Empire and from the rapid Westernisation of the popular music scene in modern times.

Modern Cambodian popular music started in the 1960s as a fusion of traditional Khmer music with western rhythm and blues. Now, what is Phleng Kaah believed to be played for? Sir, Kantrum is a genre of popular music originating among the Khmer Surin in Thailand performed by both Thais and Cambodians. Very Well Class! E. Abstraction Teacher shows the 5 different genres which are CHAPEI, A YAI, PINPEAT, PLENG KAAH and POPULAR MUSIC OF CAMBODIA in front and they have to answer their understanding of each of the genres given in a 1/2 sheet of paper.

  • Chapei is a music from Cambodia and is mostly performed solo and is in acapella.
  • A yai is a music from Cambodia and is performed by both man and woman and either adlibbed or scripted.
  • Pinpeat is more on the orchestral side and it is similar to Thailand's Piphat.
  • Pleng Kaah is a wedding music that is used for entertainment and ceremonial parts of traditional Khmer Wedding.
  • Popular Music is characterized as a fusion of Khmer Music and Western Music Styles. F. Application Teacher asks the students to come up with their reflections towards today’s topic in a 1/2 sheet of paper. Students will provide a summarized version of each of their reflections for the topic.
  • The music of Cambodia is derived both from traditions dating back to the ancient Khmer Empire and from the rapid Westernization of the popular music scene in modern times. IV.
