Understanding Endergonic and Exergonic Reactions and the Role of Enzymes, Slides of Biology

A clear explanation of the concepts of endergonic and exergonic reactions in the context of chemical reactions. Endergonic reactions require energy to occur, while exergonic reactions release energy. The document also introduces the role of enzymes in these reactions. This information is essential for students of chemistry and biology, particularly those studying biochemistry and cellular processes.

Chemical reactions

  • Ende rgonic reactions – need energy to occur. For example adding a phosphate to ADP to make ATP is endergonic. Remember eNde-rgonic NEEDS energy… Ende is NEED with the letters mixed up.
  • Exe rgonic reactions – releases energy. For example removing a phosphate from ATP to make ADP is exergonic – remember we use ATP for energy. EX ergonic reactions EXPEL energy.
