feeling Days ago, I visited different places to learn the public feelings on the occasion of
the February 16 birthday of the great leader Kim Jong Il, the first great holiday of the
new millenium. First I met with a worker surnamed Yoo of Hyundai Motor Company in
Ulsan. Asked about his feelings on the first great holiday of the new millenium, he, a
member of the February 16 Friendship League, said. "Greeting the birthday of leader
Kim Jong Il, I can hardly press my yearn for him welling up in my mind. Kim Jong Il is the
people-loving statesman who is building the people's paradise and enriching the
people's life in north Korea. According to north Korea visitors, the leader visited
Huichon, Jagang Province, in June last year to meet workers there. Shaking their oil-
stained hands, he encouraged them and had pictures taken with them. When he called
at Huichon Hotel where workers lodge mostly, he looked round bedrooms and dining
room to take meticulous care of the workers' life. Indeed, there is nobody happier than
the north Korean workers who live and work in the warm bosom of the great leader Kim
Jong Il." Then I met with a student surnamed Choi of Chungang University. He, who
takes to me like his own elder brother, said that he greeted the first great holiday of the
new millenium with excitement. He continued to say. "This year marks the 55th
anniversary of the country's liberation from the Japanese colonial rule. Those who truly
worry about the fate of the nation should not turn aside the problem of national
reunification. As mentioned in the New Year's joint editorial of north Korea, it is an
auspicious event for our nation that the three-way alliance of the south, north and
overseas Korean compatriots was realized for the first time at the 99 pro-reunification
festival, the tenth pan-national rally and other pro-reunification events last year.
Through this fact we have keenly felt that the five-point policy of great national unity
advanced by leader Kim Jong Il is the most reasonable guideline of reunification.
Marshal Kim Jong Il is the great leader of a reunified motherland whom our students and
all other people hold in high esteem. We will dedicate our best efforts to the sacred
struggle for reunification to hasten the day when we will have the leader in high esteem
in a reunified country." I also met Chung in Shinsa-dong, Tongdaemun-gu, Seoul, who
was suffering from nervous depression after his company went bankrupt. He said. "The
legend-like news that leader Kim Jong Il met with Honorary Chairman Jung Ju-yung of
the Hyundai Business Group and granted all his requests last year was a light for all the
businessmen in this land and a beacon illumining the way for their revival. Though we
are suffering from subordination by foreign forces and fascism, we are living stoutly
with national pride because there is great Marshal Kim Jong Il in north Korea who
represents and leads the nation. Really, he is the father of the nation and lodestar of
national reunification who embraces and takes warm care of people of all social
standings including businessmen without discrimination." They were all right. Learning
the feelings of people on the first great holiday of the new millenium, I could see once
again that the public feelings in this land were in that emotional day when they would
have Kim Jong Il as the president of a reunified country. Greeting the great holiday,
south Korean people in every walk of life made bows toward the northern sky with best
wishes for the longevity of the respected leader Kim Jong Il. They were full of the
determination to unite their efforts to hasten the day of reunification.
