Instructions for completing the Watson-Glaser Critical Thinking Appraisal Form B or A
Step 1
The WGCTA is a measure of how you learn new information, analyze it, and make decisions. Unlike the other questionnaires
you may complete, this one does have correct and incorrect answers. It is important that you are able to concentrate.
Please complete the WGCTA:
o when you are well rested.
o where you will not be interrupted. It is not a timed test, but it takes about an
hour to complete.
o when you can complete it in its entirety (the whole questionnaire without
taking a break)
If you are taking this at the client’s office, please skip to Step 3.
Step 2
You were looking at the “My Assessment” page of the TAD
website when you downloaded these instructions.
Step 3
Once you click the “take” link under pending assessments. It will then
take you to a screen like this. -------------------------------------------
Then click on the “click here” hyperlink that will take you to the
checklist of requirements to take the tets. Make sure to read them
all and check them to proceed.

Instructions for completing the Watson-Glaser Critical Thinking Appraisal – Form B or A

Step 1 The WGCTA is a measure of how you learn new information, analyze it, and make decisions. Unlike the other questionnaires you may complete, this one does have correct and incorrect answers. It is important that you are able to concentrate.

Please complete the WGCTA:

o when you are well rested.

o where you will not be interrupted. It is not a timed test, but it takes about an

hour to complete.

o when you can complete it in its entirety (the whole questionnaire without

taking a break)

If you are taking this at the client’s office, please skip to Step 3.

Step 2 You were looking at the “My Assessment” page of the TAD website when you downloaded these instructions. Step 3 Once you click the “take” link under pending assessments. It will then take you to a screen like this. ------------------------------------------- Then click on the “click here” hyperlink that will take you to the checklist of requirements to take the tets. Make sure to read them all and check them to proceed.

Step 4 Finally, a window like the one to the right will appear. Begin the record and make sure to allow the software to run. Then begin the questionnaire. When you click begin questionnaire, you will be asked for a password. This password was provided in the first email you received. Step 5 The next page should look like this: You are asked to enter your information. The only required information: First Name Last Name Current or Most Recent Industry Current or Most Recent Position Type Current or Most Recent Occupation This information is for the purposes of the company who created the WGCTA. TAD does not use it. Click Then read pop-up screen and click again. The WGCTA has 5 sub-tests, Inference, Recognition of Assumptions, Deduction, Interpretation, and Evaluation of Arguments. Each test has different instructions. It is important that you read them carefully before answering the questions. Each test will have directions and then 1-3 example questions. You can track your progress at the bottom of the screen. There are boxes with I, E, or a number in them. The I is for Instruction pages, the E is for Example pages and the number represents the question number. Step 6 The next page should look like this: Next Next

Step 9 The next several screens have more examples of the Inference questions. Do not worry, this is the longest set of directions and examples. They want to make sure you understand the way the questionnaire flows. Click NEXT or PREVIOUS as needed.

Step 10 This is the first question of the actual questionnaire. Proceed through the questions until you reach the next screen with “Directions” at the top. The number of questions given in each section may change, but you should have at least 16 questions in each section. The total number of real questions is 80 – 85. Step 11 Recognition of Assumptions The next 5 screens display: Directions 3 examples Last set of directions 16 + questions Click NEXT or PREVIOUS as needed. Proceed through the questions until you reach the next screen with “Directions” at the top. The number of questions given in each section may change, but you should have at least 16 questions in this section.

Interpretation The next 5 screens display: Directions 2 examples Last set of directions 16 + questions Click NEXT or PREVIOUS as needed. Proceed through the questions until you reach the next screen with “Directions” at the top. The number of questions given in each section may change, but you should have at least 16 questions in this section. Step 1 4 Evaluation of Arguments The next 5 screens display: Directions 3 examples Last set of directions 16 + questions Click NEXT or PREVIOUS as needed. Step 14

Proceed through the questions until you reach the last item. The number of questions given in each section may change, but you should have at least 16 questions in this section. When you complete the last item, click Finished. If you have completed all the questions, you will see this page: If you skipped or forgotten any questions, you will see this page: Please click PREVIOUS until you reach the question(s) that are not answered. Then click your chosen answer(s). Step 15 The company asks you if you want to enter personal information. This is optional. You do not need to enter the information and TAD does not use it. To continue, Click Enter your information if you would like. When you are finished, Click Next Next
