Natural Hazard #1 - Landslide It was an endogenic process. Location – Sichuan, China Date – June 4, 2023 URL - https://watchers.news/2023/06/04/deadly-landslide-strikes-sichuan-province-in-china-leaving-19- dead/ Description – The Sichuan Province of China saw a disastrous landslip in the early hours of June 4, 2023, which killed at least 19 people. Rescue attempts were put on hold as a result of the landslip, which took place in a forest park in the Jinkouhe District, close to the city of Leshan. It also prompted an investigation into what caused the mountain to collapse. On Sunday, June 4, 2023, a terrible landslip in the Sichuan province of southwestern China claimed the lives of 19 people who have been positively identified as being employees of the Jinkaiyuan mining enterprise. In Jinkouhe, close to the city of Leshan, a landslide happened at about 6:00 local time near a state-owned forestry station. A neighbouring mining company's building site was completely destroyed as the collapse unleashed a destructive torrent of mud and debris. The search and rescue operation was completed by 20:30, according to state television station CCTV, and an inquiry into the reason for the collapse is presently ongoing. CCTV footage showed a bleak image of rescuers and excavators navigating a section of ground that had been devastated by the accident, with twisted metal, broken masonry, and the scattered ruins of a wooded slope.14 deaths and five missing people were initially reported by the Jinkouhe local government. But all 19 people have since been identified as dead. According to CCTV, an unspecified number of mine personnel were safely evacuated.
