Examining our Roles as a Global Citizens
Doing good for others has been shown in research to increase life
satisfaction, happiness, and mental and physical health. One study
discovered that persons who volunteered for roughly four hours each week
had a considerably lower risk of acquiring high blood pressure. So, how can
we spread this sense of well-being on a worldwide scale? How can we
improve our global citizenship? A global citizen is someone who understands
the globe and how human activities affect it. They are interested in the
environment, nature, human cultures, geology, and economics, as well as
how they all interact. They also want to constructively contribute to
communities in order to enhance the lives of others.
People, countries, and economies are increasingly intertwined,
implying that there is a global component to who we are. The best beneficial
approach to respond is to pursue a path of global citizenship. Global citizens
regard themselves as members of a developing world community and are
dedicated to contributing to the development of this community's values and
practices. Being a global citizen does not require you to give up your existing
citizenship identities, such as your nation citizenship or commitment to your
local community, religious, or ethnic group. Being a global citizen just adds
another layer of identification (with the earth as a whole) to who you are.
And if you take that identity seriously, it comes with a new set of rights and
duties. And, first and foremost, a global citizen must accept responsibility for
understanding one's own and others' perspectives on global concerns.
Understanding multiple points of view fosters problem-solving consensus and
can help to create a common ground for solutions. Second, there is a need to
uphold the notion of cultural variety. Every country has a unique cultural
belief system. And each cultural belief system adds value to our search for
solutions to any global problems we may encounter. Third, there is a
