Ethnocentrism
When we judge other cultures in terms of our own culture, known as
ethnocentrism.
As an immigrant in Canada, there are several examples that describe
ethnocentrism, for instance, I was working in Brandon Superstore when I got
here, so there wasn’t anyone who had the same culture as me. One day I
was on my break. As my traditional food has so many curries that use cumin
and coriander, when I heated my food, the whole lunchroom was filled with
aromas of spices, usually a good thing. Still, one of my colleagues from a
different culture made a weird face and asked me what is this disgusting
smell.
