History of journalism in the world
The history of journalism itself refers to Acta Diurna in Ancient Rome during the reign of the
emperor Julis Caesar (100-44 BC). Acta Diurna, namely the bulletin board ( a type of wall magazine or
information board now), is believed to be the first journalistic product: the world’s first press, mass media,
or daily newspaper. Julius Caesar is also called the “Father of the world press”. Actually, Caesar only
continued and developed the tradtion that emerged at the beginning of the founding of the Roman
empire. At the time, by order of the king high priest, all important events were recorded in the Annals,
namely blackboards that were hung on the poarch of the house. The note on the blackboard was a notice
to everyone who passed by and needed it. During the competition, Julius Caesar asked that the result of
the trial and the activities of the members of the senate be announced every day in the Acta Diurna.

  • (^) History of Journalism in Indonesia History of Indonesian Journalism after understanding the history of global journalism globally, then we will discuss the history of journalism in Indonesia. The world of journalism has indeed experienced growth along with its ups and downs in Indonesia, but that has not prevented it from developing as it is today. according to its history, the world of Indonesian journalism is divided into 3 mass groups: Colonial journalism, namely journalism developed by the Dutch in the 18th century which was marked by the appearance of a Dutch-language news paper called Bataviasche Nouvellesd. A. The Dutch Occupation Period The history of journalism in Indonesia began when the Dutch colonized Indonesia. Journalism during the Dutch occupation was marked by the issuance of a certificate from Memories der Nouvelles in 1615 by the Governor-General of the VOC, Jan Pieterzoon Coen. Initially, this news letter was still handwritten until in 1688 the Dutch East Indies government had a printing press sent from the Netherlands and was finally able to form a factual letter using the first printing. The contents of this first printed letter included provisions and agreements made between the Dutch and the Sultan of Makassar at that time. B. The Japanese Occupation Period after the period of occupation in Indonesia was replaced by the Japanese occupation, global journalism in Indonesia underwent major changes where all newspapers were forced to merge into one and their contents were adapted using Japanese plans and goals in the Dai Toa Senso or the Greater East Asia War. Quoted from various historical heritage data in Indonesia, the development of journalism during the occupation experienced difficulties. C. The Post-Independence Period / Government of President Soekarno From the period of struggle for independence to post-independence, many certificates were used as a vehicle to instill fighting spirit in the fighters to remain enthusiastic against the invaders. In the early days of independence, Indonesia's conditions were still relatively fragile and its sovereignty was threatened as long as various parties wanted to seize this country. It was at that time that newspapers played an important role as a vehicle for strengthening the Indonesian people and as a protection against sedition spread by the Dutch through their mass media.
