(a) State Taylors tool life equation and define each of the terms. (10 Marks)
(b) The following data was obtained from a cutting test:

(c) When turning diameter 19mm bar on an automatic lathe employing TC tools the value of n is 0.2 and of V 60 is 104m/min. At what speed should the spindle run to give a tool life of 6 hours? If a length of 50mm per component is machined and the feed used is 0.16mm/rev, what is the cutting time per piece and how many pieces can be produced between tool changes?

(a) Calculate for a 36T gear of 5mm module and 20 degree pressure angle:- (i) Plug size (ii) Distance over plugs places in opposite spaces (iii) Distance over plugs spaced 10 teeth apart. (15 Marks)
(b) Describe in detail ONE of the following Gear Finishing process Gear Shaving Gear Grinding (10 Marks)
(c) With regard to metal working explain what is meant by the term “Superplasticity” (8Marks)
