A definition, types, predisposing factors, pathology, clinical picture, complications, and treatment of acute peptic ulcer. Acute peptic ulcer is defined as acute multiple superficial erosions of gastric (or duodenal) mucosa. The condition is usually passing unnoticed and may present by burning epigastric pain, anorexia, and nausea relieved by any antiacids. The treatment includes mainly prophylactic, conservative, and surgical measures.

Gastric Disorders ACUTE PEPTIC ULCER Peptic Ulcer * Definition: Ulceration of mucosa exposed to gastric secretion due to acid pepsin digestion of the mucosa . * ACUTE PEPTIC ULCER * * Definition: Acute multiple superficial erosions of gastric (or duodenal) mucosa. * Types: I) Multiple erosions: Due to NSAIDs — erosions in fundus & body. e Predisposing factors : = NSAIDs which are anti-prostaglandins leading to decrease of the vascularity of gastric mucosa and weaken the mucosal barrier. e Pathology : = Multiple , superficial ulcers limited to mucosa & submucosa , punched out , variable in size ( 1mm to 1 cm ) and heals rapidly within few days without any scar .
