Chapter III Methodology Chapter Three consists of three parts, (1) Purpose of the Study and Research Design, (2) Method; and (3) Statistical Data Analysis Procedure. One, Purpose of the Study and Research Design, restates the main problem and describes the type of research design applied in this study. Part Two, Method, describes the setting and respondents, sample and sampling procedure, data gathering instrument or the questionnaires, and the research gathering procedure employed in this study. Part Three, Statistical Data Analysis Procedure, shows the statistical process used in processing the results from the data gathered.

Purpose of the Study and Research Design The main purpose of the study is to determine the existing types of personality among high school students that affects their study habits. The descriptive research design was used in this study. According to Travers, this particular research design describes the present existing conditions. It involves the collection of data in order to test the hypotheses or to answer questions concerning the current status if the respondents under study. It determines and reports the way things are (Travers, 1984).

Sloven Formula Where: n = sample size of the study N = total number of students in FCU High School e = margin of error (0.10) Formula:

Research Instruments To attain the objectives of the study, a descriptive questionnaire was formulated for the purpose of gathering needed data. The said questionnaire was composed of three parts namely: Part I. An assessment of the demographic profile of the respondents. Part II. An assessment of the Study Habits practiced by the respondents. Part III. An assessment of the Types of Personality that is visible among the respondents. For statistical purposes, the following numerical weights were assigned to respective responses on Part II. Weight 5 4 3 2 1

Responses Always Frequently Sometimes Rarely Never

Statistical Data Analysis Procedure The gathered data were subjected to analytical statistics for the interpretation and analysis of the data gathered.

Scoring of Variables The data gathered were tallied manually because its bulk was manageable for manual processing. In contrast, the researcher employed the use of Microsoft Excel for the computation of the tallied data. To facilitate analysis, the raw data were scored using the following scoring guide as basis: Score 5 4 3 2 1

Scoring Interval 4.50-5. 3.50-4. 2.50-3. 1.50-2. 0-1.

Verbal Interpretations Always Frequently Sometimes Rarely Never

Statistical Tools The statistical tools used were the frequency count, percentage, mean and grand mean. Frequency Count. This was used to determine the number of points each question had acquired that was answered by the respondents. Percentage. This was used to determine the proportion of observation in every category of each analyzed variable. Mean. This was used to determine the average study habit a respondent is utilizing. Grand Mean. This was used to get the overall average weight from their responses. According to Downie (1984), the mean formula is:

Where: ̅ = is the mean ∑ = is the sum of weighted scores N = number of respondents
