Dates and
Time
Quarter Fourth
I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learners learn that the damage or effects on communities depend on the magnitude
of and distance from an earthquake.
B. Performance
Standards
Learners will appreciate the value of using systems to analyze and explain natural
phenomena and demonstrate their understanding of the dynamics of faults and
earthquakes. They use the country’s disaster awareness and risk reduction management
plans to identify and explain to others what to do in the event of an earthquake
C. Learning
Competencies/
Objectives
1. Identify the list of materials in an emergency kit;
2. Enumerate what to do before, during, and after an earthquake;
2. Demonstrate the correct technique for "Drop, Cover, and Hold" during simulated
earthquake drills; and,
3. Increased confidence in their ability to respond effectively during and after an
earthquake by following the school disaster readiness plan.
II. CONTENT Earthquake Preparedness
III. LEARNING

IV. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous
lesson or presenting
the new lesson
(ELICIT)
“PICK A NUMBER”
The teacher will present a number, each number contains word. The students will
be asked to pick a number and they will explain or share what they have learned about
the word they picked.
B. Establishing a purpose
for the lesson
(ENGAGE)
“SOUNDS ON”
The teacher will play an earthquake drill alarm and will ask the students the
following questions:
Guide Questions:
1. What does the sound indicate?
2. What should we do if we hear that alarm?
3. Why do we need to practice earthquake drill?
C. Presenting
examples/instances of
the new lesson
(ENGAGE)
“BAG RAID: What’s inside your bag?”
The teacher will ask the students to look one object inside their bag which they
think is essential in times of disaster like an earthquake. Each student will show
what they have by raising the object using their hands.

“PICK A NUMBER”

The teacher will present a number, each number contains word. The students will be asked to pick a number and they will explain or share what they have learned about the word they picked. B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson (ENGAGE)

“SOUNDS ON”

The teacher will play an earthquake drill alarm and will ask the students the

following questions:

Guide Questions:

1. What does the sound indicate?

2. What should we do if we hear that alarm?

3. Why do we need to practice earthquake drill?

C. Presenting examples/instances of the new lesson (ENGAGE)

“BAG RAID: What’s inside your bag?”

The teacher will ask the students to look one object inside their bag which they

think is essential in times of disaster like an earthquake. Each student will show

what they have by raising the object using their hands.

Guide Questions:

1. Why did you pick that object?

2. How will it help you when an earthquake strikes us?

D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills

“SHOPEE TIME: I-ADD TO CART MO NA ‘YAN!”

The teacher will show an empty Emergency GO Bag and will ask the

students to find essential things to be included in the bag using a shopee. The

students will guess the item inside the mystery box based on the given

description for each item.

E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills #2 (EXPLORE)

“Earthquake Simulation”

The class will be divided into three groups, each group will try to do the assigned

task given to them. Each group will be given five (5) minutes to brainstorm and

one (1) minute for presentation.

Group 1: (BEFORE EARTHQUAKE)

You will tell us what to do BEFORE an earthquake through singing.

They may use any song and change the lyrics, or they will have their own.

Suggestion: “Kung ako’y mag-aasawa, ang pipiliin ko (ANO?) … ang pipiliin

ko’y …” ( Note : They can choose other song if they want to.)

Group 2: (DURING EARTHQUAKE)

You will show us what to do DURING an earthquake through acting.

Scenario: “You are inside the classroom when an earthquake strikes”

Group 3: (AFTER EARTHQUAKE)

Group 3 will show us what to do AFTER an earthquake through drawing using

manila paper.

F. Developing mastery (leads to Formative Assessment 3) (EXPLAIN) “Spot the Hazard” The teacher will show a picture and will ask the students to identify the hazards. Guide Question:

  1. Look around inside your classroom, what are the hazards inside your room? G. Finding practical applications of concepts and skills in daily living (ELABORATE)

“LET’S DCH: DUCK, COVER, AND HOLD”

All students will be asked to do the proper duck, cover, and hold. H. Making generalizations and abstractions about the lesson (ELABORATE) Create a #HASHTAG promoting earthquake preparedness. Example: #BeEarthquakeSmart I. Evaluating learning (EVALUATE) Directions: Choose the best answer. Write the letter of your answer.

  1. During an earthquake, what is the most appropriate action to take if you are indoors? A) Stay inside and hide under a sturdy piece of furniture. B) Run outside and seek open space immediately. C) Stand in a doorway to prevent door collapse. D) Turn off all utilities and evacuate the building.
  2. Which of the following items should be included in an earthquake preparedness kit? A) Matches and candles for lighting.

encounter which my principal or supervisor can help me solve? H. What innovation or localized materials did I use/discover which I wish to share with other teachers? Prepared by: Checked by:
